YouTube TV Has Over 300,000 Subscribers a Year After Launch

thumbnail

According to a source of CNBC, YouTube TV is off to an impressive start. Launched last year in February, the service is reported to have over 300,000 subscribers, though, Google has not made these figures public and would not provide a comment on the report. Providing a bit of context for that number, CNBC also reports that Hulu’s live TV option, launched last year in beta, has around 450,000 subscribers. Considering Google and YouTube don’t appear to be making the largest effort in marketing the service, and ...

Android TV streaming boxes: an uneasy start and apparent death

thumbnail

Article Contents Android TV is very much alive, as was made abundantly clear by the plethora of new Android TV powered televisions with Google Assistant capability shown off at CES 2018. Streaming boxes powered by Android TV, however, are conspicuously missing—the last Android TV set-top box to be released in the United States was the Xiaomi Mi Box in October 2016. Apple TV and Amazon's Fire TV products both received hardware refreshes last September, while Roku products received hardware refreshes in October. In comparison, the three year old Nexus ...

DEAL: Moto X4 Prime Exclusive Model for $279.99 is a Steal ($50 Off)

thumbnail

I know that I wasn’t incredibly kind in my Moto X4 review, but that was partly because I felt that at $400, the phone sat in this weird mid-pricing tier and wasn’t quite polished enough in the performance department to make it a worthwhile purchase. At $279.99, though, it 100% is a steal. Now, this $279.99 price is only for the Amazon Prime Exclusive model, which does have some ads here and there. But even for the Prime version, $279.99 is a $50 discount over its ...

Alexa App Update to Bring Actual Alexa Voice Commands

thumbnail

According to Android Police, an incoming update for the official Alexa app on Android will soon bring a feature that you may have thought should’ve been there for quite some time. That’s right, actual Alexa voice interactions! I know, truly innovative. Until this update, which isn’t even live for everyone yet, the Alexa app purely managed Alexa on your various Echo devices. However, with this addition, you’ll be able to access skills for Alexa, control music playback, plus more. Sadly, it appears there will be no hotword ...

CCC Air Stick brings 4K HDR10 and aptX HD to Android TV in Chromecast-size package

thumbnail

While CES brought a stack of announcements for Android TV-powered televisions, streaming boxes have been in conspicuously short supply. The CCC Air Stick 4K is breaking up that monotony, cramming in support for 4K HDR10 as well as aptX and aptX HD—apparently a first for Android TV-powered boxes. It has a relatively minimal 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, though this is double what the Nexus Player provides. Unfortunately, it is Japan only, though you could import it if you feel the urge. The Air ...

Notarize App Makes Notarizing Documents so Easy

thumbnail

I’ve only had to find a notary once or twice in my life, but each time, it felt like such a hassle. I was younger and the process of finding a random person to watch me sign a document and then pay them for doing so felt like a very odd thing. Regardless, it’s something that needs to be done from to time, and I’m happy to report that a newly launched app for Android, called Notarize, should make the process extremely simplistic. The way it ...
