ViewSonic GTablet

ViewSonic G-Tablet – TNT Lite v4.4.0 w/ DroidPirate Mods

Since this is the most stable version of TNTLite v4.4.0 – already installed no seperate flashing required. TNT has been one of my most favorite ROMs for the G-Tablet; I always expierment with other ROMs but some how I keep ending up back to TNT Lite.. Definitely one of the best in my opinon, i’ve been running the v4.2.1 of TNTLite and decided it was in need of change. I’ve noticed ton of users flashing the TNTLite v5.0.0 version and having a ton of problems I’ve also noticed the 5.0.0 version has been pulled over at XDA. So 4.4.0 is currently the most stable release of TnTLite.

Installation for Standard Recovery
Step 1. Extract the contents of the ZIP file to your computer
Step 2. Copy both the (update.zip and the recovery folder) to the root of your SDCard
Step 3. Power off the device competely
Step 4. Press and hold the power switch and the volume up (+) until you see a recovery screen. After the update is complete your G-Tablet will reboot. Usually when I reflash to a different ROM alot of the permissions get messed up; so you may need to preform a data wipe. Settings -> Security -> Factory Data Reset

ChangeLog since v4.2.1 (Whats installed)
- (4.4.0) Added clemsyn’s v7 kernel, to fix the sleep issue. Also “unfixed” the Camera to correct the mirroring issue.
- (4.3.2) Fixed issue with Flash 10.1 reversion by adding the 10.2 apk into the installation script.
- (4.3.1) Fixed the home and search buttons breaking after wiping the user data
- (4.3.0) Based off 3991 system.img (legacy kernel and bootloader, however), camera fixed, new Market, recovery command line toggle added, 3588 bootloader added
- (4.2.5) New Market (stars?), new Gmail. Also patched for this vulnerability — http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=977154
- (4.2.4) build.prop changes to fix recent Market issues (this came from several posts in XDA)
- (4.2.3) Driver update that improves Nenamark scores (40 fps or higher)
- (4.2.2) Added Google Maps 5.1 and the Maps flip fix (thanks jwischka, atakapa and Butch1326!)
- (4.2.1) Add Adam keyboard, Sniffer app (thanks gojimi!). Adds updated Nvidia drivers that correct tearing in the Settings app (thanks proengin!)
- (4.4.0) Droidpirate MODs -> All NotionINK applications optional (install), re-modified all framework files (theme related).

ViewSonic G-Tablet – Touch Screen Calibration

If you want to be able to calibrate your Viewsonic G-Tablet Touchscreen easily, check out XDA forum member gojimi‘s version of this touch screen Android application.

The Calibration app can be launched from the app drawer – originally called ‘moduleap’, the XDA member has modded the app to make it easier to use and it now includes a launcher icon.

Note that if you have the original moduleap application, you’ll need to uninstall before installing this one. And you’ll need to make sure that you don’t touch the screen during recalibration. View Original Source

ViewSonic G-Tablet – VTL.Launcher BETA 1.4

This Launcher is designed with landscape tablets in mind. What I have done is begun to remove the tired old Phone Like dock bar we are used to in just about every android launcher and replace it with a sleek Scrollable/Drag-able/Drop-able/Rearrangeable “ALONG the BOTTOM” (NOW WITH TOGGLEABLE SIDE DOCKS AS WELL!) Application and Shortcut Dock.

You can drag any Application, Shortcut, Browser Shortcut, Folder, etc. onto or off of and even drag them to different positions along the bar. Basically just about anything you can usually place on the desktop (except widgets, sorry that is not going to happen) you can place on the dock bar.So feel free to fill your desktop with widgets and clocks and weather and that cool picture of your cat , because all your favorite apps are a fling away at the bottom.

So far scrolling widget support is fully functional. If an app complains/or warns that it doesn’t detect a compatible launcher ignore it and continue they should work (as long as they are ADW Compliant). This should work on virtually any device. Though non large screen devices may have issues with the layouts so you will have to play with the desktop column and row numbers etc.

CHANGELOG:
Version Beta 1.4:
————–
-Fixed all Paddings to be dynamic with regard to which docks are visible.
-Increased the Folder Columns by one for both Orientations.
-Fixed Animations and Reflections for proper directions on all dockbars.
-Added Toggle Setting to Show/Hide the dockbar when the app drawer is open.
-Added Right-Hand Dockbar w/Toggle Setting.
-Added Left-Hand Dockbar w/Toggle Setting.
-Changed Dock Style to be be centered instead of left justified.
-Fixed a fling issue when there were less icons than cells that would cause the icons to fing right and stick.
-Changed the default setting of drawer type to the vertical scroll style as it is smoother.
-Changed the default setting of drawer color to have a slight alpha to it so you can see your wallpaper a bit.

How To – G-Tablet – Creating and Flashing Custom Boot Logos

ADVANCED USERS ONLY – NVFLASH REQUIRED

I would like to reiterate the importance of when I say this is not for the faint of heart. You should be familiar with nvflash, know how to pull the partition table, know how to do a full restore, etc. You are directly and blindly flashing a partition. A small percentage of devices have a different partition table, which this guide would not work for.

1) Follow this guide to setup Nvflash, and enter APX mode: http://wiki.tegratab.com/index.php/Nvflash_FAQ
2) Download boot logo if you don’t have one.
3) Open a command line and change directory to the image location on your hard drive.
4) Enter APX mode
5) Run command: nvflash –bl bootloader.bin –download 6 (imagename).bmp

Note: 6 is the number of the partition that this image is stored on, nothing else resides on this partition, and nothing else will be damaged
6) Reboot and you should see something other than the Viewsonic Birds

Sample:
Do not save this image preview as template(it is a png instead of bmp).
Download via Multiupload.com

Creating Your Custom Logo:
Tools:
- Gimp (or equivalent)
- Photoshop

1) Open my sample image in Gimp
2) Find logo that you want
-a)For example you could find a android image
3) Select and delete tegra logo
4) Paste your logo onto the white tegra background (this has correct dimensions)
5) Merge layers
6) Save as .bmp
7) Flash like above method

ViewSonic G-Tablet – Official Honeycomb Boot Animation

Installation:
1.) Download the file of your choice you would like to use. (Updated 4/8/2011)
*DO NOT add .zip after bootanimation as it is already in a zip format.
2.) Mount your SD Card to your computer and copy/paste the selected bootanimation to any folder or root directory on your SD Card as long as you know where it is located.
3.) Unmount your SD Card and go back to your phone.
4.) Open your file manager. I use Root Explorer.
5.) The default boot animation directory is “data/local”. DELETE your old bootanimation.zip if there is one. If not make sure that if you are using a ROM find out from the developer what directory their bootanimation is in so it does not interfere with your new one. And delete it.
6.) Go back to the directory you saved the boot animation in.
7.) Copy the bootanimation.zip
8.) Navigate to “data/local” and “paste” the new boot animation.
9.) Restart phone and enjoy

Recovery for G-Tab Users

Alright this isn’t the cleanest or the nicest Recovery to get your ViewSonic G-Tablet back up and running correctly; But it Works! I recently flashed TNT Lite v5.0.0 but I must not have read the installation correctly. It took my device to a boot loop; wasn’t able to access ClockWork Recovery nor put a ROM on the micro SD. Basically I was just stuck at a blank black screen the device wouldn’t turn on. So I started to read up on NVFlash and it was sort of a pain in the ass at first but if the people that wrote the tutorials would actually include all of the files in 1 zip, and the correct files it wouldn’t have been so bad. Anyways here we go; if your device is already messed up there’s no reason you should not at least try this and see if it works. Remember only use this guide as a last life line for your G-Tablet if you already tried my original post “Recovering your G-Tablet from a Brick”. Then Proceed.

Please note by running this recovery script your it will install ClockWorkMod Recovery and return your device to boot loader 1.1 by default!

The hardest part is installing the APX Drivers on your Windows based computer. If you are running Windows 7 64Bit like myself it could be somewhat a pain in the ass. Also I cannot find where I downloaded APX drivers from; they where already installed on my device previously. If someone finds the APX drivers please post a comment with the URL.

Step 1. File can be downloaded below. (You will have to unzip the contents of this file using WinZIP, WinRAR or 7Zip).
Step 2. Make sure the G-Tablet is powered off. Connect your ViewSonic G-Tablet to your Computer. Press and hold Power On + Volume (-) <--- MINUS! Make sure you are holding in minus! You should hear your computer recognize the USB connection; also it should now try and install the APX drivers unless they already uninstalled.
Step 3. Now that you are in APX mode and your G-Tablet is connected via USB, open the folder that you downloaded/unzipped earlier. (Do not edit or modifying anything in this zip file).
Step 4. Run the file called “nvflash_gtablet” make sure the file you are running is a Windows Batch File.
Step 5. On your devices screen you should see something that says “NVFlash” system upgrade <-- something related to that. If you see anything else or an error in the bat file then your APX drivers are not installed correctly or your device is not booted into APX mode correctly. Repeat the first couple steps before proceeding (if you are having problems). If not continue.
Step 6. Ok, hopefully now the NVflash has completed your device should automatically restart by itself. If it doesn’t restart it you should see the ViewSonic Bootup screen. Allow some time for the device to fully boot up.
Step 7. Once the device boots up you are going to see an Error message that says “UID Missmatch” and a button that says “I’m Feeling Lucky“. Click on the I’m Feeling Lucky button. You should notice a bunch of force close errors that’s ok just keep Closing them and ignoring.
Step 8. Now if you disconnected your device from the PC reconnect it. Enable USB Mass Storage mode so you can use your device as a USB Drive to store data.
Step 9. Download any ROM of your choice (I would stay away from the latest build of TNTLite v5.0.0). So for instance you can download TNT Lite v4.2.1 w/ DroidPirate Mods.
Step 10. If you are using the TNTLite v4.2.1 w/ DroidPirate Mods you will notice that the file you are downloading is “update.zip” DO NOT EXTRACT THIS FILE!!!!! Leave it exactly as it is and copy it over to your SD-Card of your G-Tablet.
Step 11. Next completely power off your G-Tablet device. Press the Volume + (UP) make sure it is the + button. We are now going to booting into ClockWork Recovery. Don’t worry ClockWork Recovery is installed on your device if you ran the batch file from above. I modified the batch file so it installs ClockWorkRecovery onto your device while preforming the NVFlash.
Step 12. You should now be in ClockWorkRecovery’s console screen. You can move up an down using “Volume + & Volume -” You can make a selection by pressing the “Home Button” on your device. And you can return to a previous screen by hitting the “Back” button on your device.
Step 13. The first thing you want to do now that you are in ClockWorkRecovery is choose “Wipe Data/Factory Reset“, then choose the option “Yes- I Want to Factory Reset“.
Step 14. Now go back to main screen of ClockWorkRecovery, choose “Wipe Cache Partition“.
Step 15. Next go back to the main screen of ClockWorkRecovery again and choose “Install zip file from SD-Card“. So whatever ZIP file you placed on your SD-Card this is the file you want to choose. If you installed TNT Lite v4.2.1 w/ DroidPirate mods then you want to select the “update.zip” file. Then choose “Yes – I want to install“.
Step 16. Go back to the main screen of ClockWorkRecovery and choose the first option “Reboot your device“. You should now notice a different boot animation <-- this is a good thing. It may take a few minutes for your device to fully boot up please be patient if it does not after 20 minutes something went wrong.
