ViewSonic G-Tablet – Themeing TNT Lite v4.51

Posted by on October 15, 2011 at 3:32 am

Here’s is everything you will need for all the upcoming G-Tablet themes that will soon be appearing on Droidpirate.com. First off this WILL ONLY WORK on TNT Lite v4.51 – other ROMs you will brick your device instantly. It is not supported for other framework files on different custom ROMs or the stock TAP ‘n’ TAP ROM. I cannot stress this enough, if you had problems installing TNT Lite v4.51 then this might not be for you because you can easily brick your device if you do not follow the instructions very carefully.

Essentials You Need:
- First like everything you will need TNT Lite v4.51 installed on your G-Tab – (Click here for more info)
- Next you will need ROOT access without it, it simply will not work (Click here for more info)
- You will then need LauncherPro it isn’t a must but everything was created with LauncherPro installed on my G-Tab (Click here for more info)

- Now you need to download the (2) files below, please note that these are .ZIP files so you need to extract them on your computer first using WinZIP, WinRAR or 7ZIP. Now that you have extracted the files you should see that they are (.APK) extensions. Connect your g-tablet to your computer and access the SD-Card and copy both APK files to your SD.

Download BusyBox Installer
Download MetaMorph Installed

Now that both files have been pushed to your SD-Card we now need to install them on the G-Tablet device. Since your on TNT you should have a file manager called “iFileManager“. Open it.

Find the BusyBox and MetaMorph v1.9.9 you copied earlier and Install both of them by clicking on them. After you installed both of the items, you need to go to your application drawer and Open the BusyBox application like shown in the screenshots below:

Choose “Install” let BusyBox do it’s thing it should take a few minutes for it to fully installed. You’re almost ready to start themeing!

Next Connect your G-Tablet back to your PC and enable Mass Storage, so you can create one more folder on your devices SD-Card. Open the SD-Card folder on your PC, you should be at the ROOT directory. You need to create a folder called “AndroidThemes” it has to be formatted just like that, this is where you will be placing all the MetaMorph .zip files that you are going to use in MetaMorph to theme your G-Tab.

So now to test it you can download this file below that will change your WiFi Notification indicator to Green.
- Download G-Tablet WiFi Green MetaMorph

Take the .zip file you just downloaded DO NOT EXTRACT THE .ZIP, just copy it directly to your “AndroidThemes” folder. Now disable your USB Storage in the notification area. If your gtablet is still connected to your computer than MetaMorph will not be able to recognize the SD-Card.

Now open up the MetaMorph application that you downloaded/installed on your device earlier.

Choose “Unzip/Extract New Theme

Now Choose the file you downloaded above called “G-Tablet-WiFi-Lime.zip

You will see a notification similar to the one above just letting you know what file you are installing. Click on “Close“.

You will now see a warning that the file is going to modify system files on your device. Choose “OK“.

MetaMorph will now be applying the theme to your G-Tablet, your device will also ask you to Reboot Choose “Yes”, your device may reboot automatically which is also normal. Right after it turns back on you should notice your WiFi Indicator has now been replaced just like the screen shot shown below.

ViewSonic G-Tablet – Backup Any Application/Game & Transfer G-Tablet

Posted by on August 31, 2011 at 10:52 pm

This tutorial will allow you to transfer any application from one of your devices to your ViewSonic G-Tablet. So basically if you have another Android Tablet/Phone you can backup your application and transfer it over to your Gtablet. Some applications will not work resulting in a force close error, other applications will not be the correct 10.1″ size because they were not created to support that resolution. However for the most part, most applications and games will work on the correct resolution. Please note that you will need root access on the device you are backing up the application from.

Your ViewSonic G-Tablet also needs to be ROOTed, and you will need a custom ROM installed on your device such as TNT Lite.

Step 1. On the device that has the current application that you would like to backup and transfer to your ViewSonic Gtab. Go to the Android Marketplace and download “App Backup Reinstall“.

Step 2. Open the App Backup Reinstall application and find the application you are looking to back up. In our example we are going to backup the application “AK Notepad“.

Step 3. Now simply press on the application that you are going to back up, you should noticed a check box near the application. If you are doing multiple applications to backup and transfer select some other apps. Press the Menu button on your device and Choose “Back up“. You should notice text in green that says “Back up” indicating that the application has been successfully backed up onto your devices SD-Card.

Step 4. Now connect the Android device to your computer via USB, not the g-tablet! But the device that you just backed up the application with. Locate your devices SD-card by viewing it in My Computer on your PC. Find the folder “AppBackup“. Copy all the file, or all of the files that you just backed up to a new folder on your computer.

Step 5. Now connect your ViewSonic G-Tablet to your computer via USB. Now enable mass storage, so you can transfer files to your G-tablets SD-Card. You can create a new folder on your g-tablets SD-Card or you can just copy them to the root directory just make sure you remember where you placed them.

Step 6. Open up ES File Manager on your g-tablet or another appropriate file manager application, find the apk/applications that you just transferred over and Viola! You should have now successfully installed a application onto your ViewSonic G-tablet. Now just hope for the best that the application will work in the 10.1″ resolution and you do not receive any force close errors.

ViewSonic G-Tablet – Complete Guide for Beginners

ViewSonic G-Tablet Guide For Beginners

I have been getting hundreds of e-mails a day mostly about ViewSonic G-Tablet flashing, rooting, market access, recovering from a brick, etc. It sucks that the device doesn’t come this way out of the box; but no worries droidpirate.com is hear to walk all the beginners/noobs through the process of flashing a rom, rooting and getting the market place to install on the ViewSonic G-Tablet.

First things first, users that are still on the original ROM (tap ‘n’ tap), theres really nothing you can do your stuck with everything thats on the device which is only news, weather, browser, music, gallery and some other applications. You are also stuck with ViewSonic’s android marketplace which sucks. No angry birds, no installing your favorite mobile applications etc. The first step is to free yourself from the stock tap’n'tap ROM and installing something much more nicer such as TNT Lite v4.51. The ROM will allow your tablet to run like an Android smartphone; now for those who have never used an Android smartphone. You might not even know the full possibilities of your Android tablet you’ve just purchased. The TNT ROM in my own opinion is amazing, I use it all the time with out any problems ever! I’ve used tons of other ROMs in the past and pretty much nothing compares to the TNT build.

Flashing a Custom ROM

The first step is to flash a custom ROM I’m going to assume you are using TNT Lite v4.51. IF your g-tablet is fresh out of the box or has never had any modifications done to it, that’s perfect! The instructions should be a lot easier to follow and comprehend.
Step 1. Download the TNT Lite version or which ever ROM you are going to install.
Step 2. You must make sure that the ROM you are installing is for Stock Recovery or ClockWorkRecovery. This is very important. So if you are a new beginner you are running the stock recovery console that came installed on your gtablet.
Step 3. Now that you have the file downloaded, you have to extract the contents of the .zip file using WinZIP, 7Zip or WinRAR. YOU DO NOT WANT TO EXTRACT THE CONTENTS OF “update.zip“! You should now see that you have (2) files, well (1) file and (1) folder called “Recovery” and “update.zip“.
Step 4. Connect the USB cord that came with your G-tablet to your computer, and connect to other end to the gtablet device itself. On your gtablet device you need to click on the notification icon up at the top so you can Enable USB Mass Storage mode (this allows you to transfer files back and forth, between your computer and device).
Step 5. Now on your computer click on My Computer, and find your G-tablets SD-Card and double click on it. Copy the (2) files “update.zip” and the folder “Recovery” to your sd-card. DO NOT PLACE THEM IN A DIFFERENT FOLDER, make sure its on the root of the sd-card.
Step 5. Ok so now all the files are in the correct place on the gtablet, it’s time to completely power off your g-tablet device and remove the USB cord connected to the computer. We are now going to preform the custom ROM install. Press and Hold on the VOLUME UP (+) button on your g-tablet while holding that hold the Power On as well. You should see the ViewSonic TapNTap boot image and black text up at the top that says “Recovery Key Detected” you can now release both buttons. Let the device do everything from here it should say finished at the bottom of the screen or your device may reboot automatically (if it doesn’t just power it off and power back on). You should now notice a different boot image. Welcome to TNT.

Notes: It’s pretty much impossible to brick your device on the first fresh install of a ROM. Well not every ROM but TNT v451.

Benefits of TNT v4.51?

- Full Android marketplace access
- Removes all the junk from the stock tap’n'tap OS
- NetFlix & Hulu – Smooth, crisp no lag playback
- More options for your device
- Install any android application on your device
- Improves performance
- No Random device rebooting

When you install TNT Lite v4.51 you will also automatically receive the following applications on your device by default. Angry Birds, Angry Birds Season, Angy Birds Rio, Calculator, Calendar, Camera, Clock, Contacts, Email, Gmail, iFile Manager, Maps, Android Market, Music, NetFlix, News & Weather, PLaces, Sound Recorder, Sniffer, Google Talk, Web (Browser), YouTube, all of ADAM apps (view list).

Bugs: I have yet to find a bug in this build, a lot of questions came in asking if the Camera will work on this release Yes it will. If you find or run into a bug with the v4.51 please leave a comment.

ROOTing (SuperUser) Permissions for Your G-Tablet

Alright here are the easiest steps for rooting your G-Tablet device or gaining Superuser permissions on your gtablet. Root access can be installed on your device with the stock tap ‘n’ tap ROM, or any other custom ROM you are flashing to the device- it doesn’t matter and will work throughout all 2.+ versions.

Step 1. The first thing you need to do is download or root application for your gtablet device you can do so by Clicking here.
Step 2. Now that you have the file downloaded the next thing you want to do is connect your gtablets USB cord to your computer as well as to the g-tablet. Click the notification icon up at the top on the gtablets screen and choose “USB Mass Storage Mode” (so you can transfer files back and forth from your PC to your Gtablet). The file you downloaded should have been a .ZIP file, so you need to extract the APK from the package using WinZip, 7ZIP or WinRAR. So now you should have the root.apk file. Copy or Drag the apk file to your SD-Card of your Gtablet device (just remember what folder you placed it in, you are going to need it later).
Step 3. Ok so now the root apk (application) has been moved over to your g-tablet you must disconnect the device from the computer. Open up the application that comes preinstalled on every gtablet called “ES File Manager” locate the root apk you placed on your device earlier, press on it and choose “Install“.
Step 4. Now that the root apk has been installed on the device, simply open up your Application drawer and find the root app in your application list. Once it loads simply click on the “Root Now” button sit back and wait roughly around 3-5 minutes your device should reboot itself automatically. Once your device reboots itself you should now see an application in your app drawer called “SuperUser“. You have successfully rooted your ViewSonic G-Tablet.

Full Android Marketplace on your G-Tablet

All the users trying to get the FULL Android marketplace running on their G-Tablet. For the new users that are just unboxing their g-tablet or still running the stock tap’n'tap this WILL NOT work for you. You need to be on a custom ROM such as TNT Lite v4.51 or any other custom ROM. You also need to have your viewsonic g-tablet rooted for this to work. This is why I posted everything in this particular order.

Step 1. You need to be running any of the TNT builds
Step 2. You need to have your g-tablet rooted (more information)
Step 3. Download this file, follow the instructions.

ViewSonic G-Tablet – TNT Lite v4.51 (Droidpirate Mods) (Honeycomb Framework)

Posted by on June 15, 2011 at 1:28 am

TNT Lite v4.51 (DroidPirate Mods) G-Tablet

TNT Lite v4.51 with Droidpirate Mods because 4.40 was a little out dated and a too buggy. I guess the creator of TNT has officially retired the TNT Lite ROM. Which sucks because its the only that I actually prefer as well as 1000 other G-Tablet owners. So I decided to take it out of retirement and do a lot of modifications myself.

Most of the system/app on 4.40 was very out-dated such as the Market place, G-Mail, Google Maps, YouTube, Google Voice and a few others. However the interface of 4.40 was awesome we are still using most of the framework images/icons with a lot of Honeycomb style framework images/icons, animations. There is also 2 versions because I know a lot of users have been saying they are still using the stock recovery rather than Clock work.

# Updated a ton of out dated APK files
# Honeycomb framework images/icons (animations)
# Angry Birds, Angry Birds Rio auto installed
# Adam applications installed
# Stablest TNT version

There was a huge bug in v4.40 where the WiFi notification would hardly ever Connect, or seeing the “WiFi Error Message”. So I ported the older settings from TNTLite v.421 which was very stable. The Market should automatically install without having to do any custom update.zip or clearing cache/apps to get the Market installed. It has been confirmed too that users going from the stock (tap ‘n’ tap) for the first time to TNT v4.51-dp should also have the market place (still some applications still missing?) If not you will need to follow the same tutorial on getting the market installed by clicking here.

Installation:

** There are 2 types of flashable files for users who are running ClockWorkRecovery and users who are still using the Stock Recovery. Please make sure you know whats running on your device, if you start up your g-tablet by holding (volume +, then power) if your device boots into “ClockWorkRecoveryMod”, then you are in ClockWork, if you see a black & white message that says *Recovery Key Detected* then you are running the Stock Recovery. **

Stock/Standard Recovery:
Step 1. Download the File Below
Step 2. Once you have downloaded the file, you should notice that it is (nonclockwork451.zip) you need to extract this zip file. So you will have a “Recovery folder“, and a update.zip file. Both of these need to be placed on the root of the G-Tablets *INTERNAL* SD-Card.
Step 3. Completely power off your Gtab
Step 4. Before pressing the Power button, Press & Hold the Volume + (UP) and hold Power as well, you should see *Detected Recovery Key Pressed*.
Step 5. The ROM should now be installing itself onto your G-Tab

ClockWorkModRecovery Installation:
Step 1. Download the File Below
Step 2. Once you have downloaded the file, you should notice that it is (update.zip) you DO NOT need to extract this zip file. This file needs to be copied to your g-tablets *INTERNAL* SD-Card.
Step 3. Completely power off your Gtab
Step 4. Before pressing the Power button, Press & Hold the Volume + (UP) and hold Power as well, you should now see the ClockWork Recovery interface.
Step 5. IF you are coming from any other version of TNT Lite, then you should not need to wipe your data or cache. If you are running another ROM such as VeganTab or BL1.2 Honeycomb then you will need to wipe your cache.
Step 6. Choose “Install update.zip from SD-Card”
Step 7. Next Scroll Down to “Yes”, please note the volume – will take you down, volume + up, the home key acts as the (enter key), and the back arrow will allow you to go (back).
Step 8. The ROM should now be installing itself onto your G-Tab

ViewSonic G-Tablet – Return to Stock Tap ‘N Tap

Posted by on June 1, 2011 at 10:05 pm

I’ve been getting a few requests to place a flashable version of the Stock UI (user interface) of the stock Tap ‘N Tap ROM that comes preloaded on the ViewSonic G-Tablet. This is for users who are selling their GTab or returning their G-Tab and want it completely clean/wiped with the stock user interface installed.

When I first purchased my G-Tablet it was a very crappy looking interface and you couldn’t do much you had 5 screens that showed your “Weather, News, Stocks, Email, etc”. When I saw the updates that Tap ‘N Tap actually released for their GTab I was sort of impressed a little laggy but does the job you can actually get to the Android market place and all of the features that a tablet should have not sure why they didn’t release this at the launch. Anyways for everyone requesting this here you go; it’s a very simple and straight forward install.

Installing via APX/NVFlash:
Step 1. Download the file below
Step 2. Unzip the contents of the .zip file (make sure everything stays in the same directory)
Step 3. Connect your Gtablet via USB to your computer
Step 4. Completely power off your device, once turned off press and hold (volume – *minus*) and hold the power, you should see your screen flicker and you should your computer recognize a USB device.
Step 5. Run the .BAT file that you extracted earlier
Step 6. Sit back let the batch file complete, once rebooted you should now be running the stock UI of Tap ‘n’ Tap.

Installing via update.zip (ClockWorkRecovery):
Step 1. Place the tapntap update.zip file on the root of the SD card.
Step 2. Boot into the ClockworkMod Recovery.
Step 3. Once the device boots into the ClockworkMod Recovery, use the side volume buttons to move around, and either the power button or the trackball to select.
Step 4. Select the option to Wipe data/factory reset.
Step 5. Then select the option to Wipe cache partition.
Step 6. Select Install zip from sdcard.
Step 7. Select Choose zip from sdcard.
Step 8. Select the tapntap update.zip.
