ViewSonic G-Tablet – Flash Your G-Tablet

Here’s is everything you will need for all the upcoming G-Tablet themes that will soon be appearing on Droidpirate.com. First off this WILL ONLY WORK on TNT Lite v4.51 – other ROMs you will brick your device instantly. It is not supported for other framework files on different custom ROMs or the stock TAP ‘n’ TAP ROM. I cannot stress this enough, if you had problems installing TNT Lite v4.51 then this might not be for you because you can easily brick your device if you do not follow the instructions very carefully.
Essentials You Need:
- First like everything you will need TNT Lite v4.51 installed on your G-Tab – (Click here for more info)
- Next you will need ROOT access without it, it simply will not work (Click here for more info)
- You will then need LauncherPro it isn’t a must but everything was created with LauncherPro installed on my G-Tab (Click here for more info)
- Now you need to download the (2) files below, please note that these are .ZIP files so you need to extract them on your computer first using WinZIP, WinRAR or 7ZIP. Now that you have extracted the files you should see that they are (.APK) extensions. Connect your g-tablet to your computer and access the SD-Card and copy both APK files to your SD.
Download BusyBox Installer
Download MetaMorph Installed
Now that both files have been pushed to your SD-Card we now need to install them on the G-Tablet device. Since your on TNT you should have a file manager called “iFileManager“. Open it.
Find the BusyBox and MetaMorph v1.9.9 you copied earlier and Install both of them by clicking on them. After you installed both of the items, you need to go to your application drawer and Open the BusyBox application like shown in the screenshots below:
Choose “Install” let BusyBox do it’s thing it should take a few minutes for it to fully installed. You’re almost ready to start themeing!
Next Connect your G-Tablet back to your PC and enable Mass Storage, so you can create one more folder on your devices SD-Card. Open the SD-Card folder on your PC, you should be at the ROOT directory. You need to create a folder called “AndroidThemes” it has to be formatted just like that, this is where you will be placing all the MetaMorph .zip files that you are going to use in MetaMorph to theme your G-Tab.
So now to test it you can download this file below that will change your WiFi Notification indicator to Green.
- Download G-Tablet WiFi Green MetaMorph
Take the .zip file you just downloaded DO NOT EXTRACT THE .ZIP, just copy it directly to your “AndroidThemes” folder. Now disable your USB Storage in the notification area. If your gtablet is still connected to your computer than MetaMorph will not be able to recognize the SD-Card.
This tutorial will explain how to recover your ViewSonic 10.1″ Gtablet from any type of brick you encounter! I bricked my device four different ways and I was able to recover everytime! (Updated 4/8/2011)
*** PLEASE NOTE – This will restore your entire G-Tablet device back to the way you purchased it with the ugly Stock Home Launcher and all the applications, so you will have to RE-Flash TNT-Lite, however your root access should still be installed. ***
What You Will Need:
Micro-SD Card
Be able to access your Micro-SD Storage
Step 1. Our restore file can be downloaded below.
Please note that this is a zip file you need to have WinZip, WinRAR or 7Zip to extract the (2) files that you need out of the zip file. You will notice that inside the zip file there is a “Recovery” folder and a “update” file.
Step 2. Plug in your Micro-SD Card into your computer, you can do this through your printer, or if you have a Micro-SD hub, or if you have another Android device such as a phone you can place your spare Micro-SD card as long as you can access it from your computer.
Step 3. Format the Micro-SD card or delete everything off it, make sure though if you have important documents or pictures that you back everything up.
Step 4. Copy the (2) files “Recovery folder” and “update” file to the ROOT of your Micro-SD card.
Step 5. Make sure you G-Tablet is completely powered of and disconnected from your Computer.
Step 6. Remove your Micro-SD card from your computer, printer, or device however you accessed it. Now place it into your ViewSonic 10.1 G-Tablet – You should see a little tab that you have to pull open and make sure it clicks into place.
Step 7. Press and Hold the “Volume Up” button, and hold the “Power On” button until you see text at the top of the ViewSonic boot animation that says “Found recovery image“, once you see that message you can let go of both of them.
Step 8. You should know see it is installing an update package – Good you are on the right track. Your G-Tablet should reboot and you should now notice a normal bootup sequence.
You may have to do a “Factory Reset” under the settings menu. You can access this by:
Menu -> Settings -> Location & Security -> Factory Reset
Now that your ViewSonic 10.1″ GTablet has been rooted lets take off that nasty Home application by replacing it with LauncherPro. This is pretty much the same steps as we used to Root your G-Tablet anyways follow the instructions below and feel the speed of your G-Tab. (Updated 4/8/2011)
Step 1. Download the Latest LauncherPro from the market. Links have been removed very outdated version. Search for “LauncherPro” on the Android market place. If you see an improvement on your device purchase the Plus version. Definitely worth it.
Step 2. Connect your G-Tablet device to your computer via USB.
Step 3. Click on the notification icon on your G-Tablet device and choose “USB Connected” mount via USB/Mass Storage. Give your computer a few seconds to recognize the SD-Card.
Step 4. Now the file that you downloaded before you want to copy the .APK file to the root of your SD-Card.
Step 5. Now that the launcherpro.apk file has been copied to your device un-mount the SD-Card or disconnect your device from the USB.
Step 6. The G-Tablet comes stock with a application called “ES File Explorer” click/launch that program. It should take you to the root of your SD-Card but if does not please navigate there.
Step 7. Find the launcherpro.apk that you added to your SD-Card, Click on it choose “Install”, after it has been installed click on the “Home” button on your G-Tablet device and it should now ask you. “Which Home application would you like to use?” – You can check the checkbox at the bottom that says “Use this as default” so every time you hit the home button it won’t keep asking the same question.
And there you have it your device should now be much, much faster without that ugly stock launcher. You can now theme LauncherPro to your liking and modify some of the preferences to increase the speed. If you are having problems please post a comment.
