Kindle Fire – Receives Update Breaks Root/Market

It’s been about a week since I picked up my Kindle Fire and I noticed the device received and update that does not give you an option to install it or not. This update will kill your Root Access, Market access and any other modifications that you preformed on the device. However do not panic you can easily install everything using the same exact tutorials that we have posted.

For the users that lost all of the modifications on your Kindle Fire here’s a couple stickies to get your device back to the way you had it originally with root, market, etc.

Kindle Fire Mods

- Rooting Your Amazon Kindle Fire
- Installing the Android Marketplace on Your Kindle Fire
- Changing Your Kindle Fire Wallpapers
- Changing Your Kindle Fire Lock Slider
- Over-Clocking Your Kindle Fire

Amazon Kindle Fire Over-Clocked?

Without Running SetCPU

Running SetCPU

Well that’s crazy I decided to see how the SetCPU application functioned on a rooted kindle device. My 2 screenshots above will show you the difference with root and without running SetCPU, and root with running the SetCPU application. You need to have Root Access on your Amazon Kindle Device in order to overclock the device.

You can do a benchmark for yourself using the same benchmark application that be can downloaded for free on the Android marketplace by Clicking here.

Leave a comment if you see a difference in your device, be careful I ran this for 24 hours and didn’t see that much of a decrease in battery life or performance.

Amazon Kindle Fire – How To Install Full Android Marketplace

Amazon Kindle Fire - Installing The Android Marketplace

Assuming that your Kindle Fire has already been ROOTED using our easy tutorial. We can now begin with side loading the Android Marketplace on your Kindle Device. Yes your Kindle Fire needs to be rooted in order to install the marketplace. You need Root Access/Superuser permissions so you can copy the Vending.APK from your data/app directory into your /system/app. Yes I know it will install normally right off of your sd-card but you will receive a force close error every time you try to download an application from the market. If your device is not rooted yet, click here.

Essentials Required:
- Root Access on your Kindle First (Read More Information)
- Market.zip – Consists of GoogleFeedback.apk, Vending.apk & GoogleServicesFramework.apk (Download via Droidpirate.com)
- ES File Manager – Can be downloaded directly from the Amazon AppStore

Installation
Step 1. Connect your Kindle Fire via USB to your Computer
Step 3. Unzip the “Market.zip” file that you downloaded from above to your computer, transfer the (3) .APK files to the root of your sd-card.
Step 4. Open up ES File Manager application on your Kindle.

Now we need to change your settings in ES File Manager, so the application knows you have Root Access. Follow the screenshots and steps below to do so.

Choose the “Menu Icon“, like shown in the screenshot above.

Choose “Settings

Scroll all the way to the bottom to where it says “Root settings“, Make sure there is a check mark next to “Root Explorer“.

Choose “Yes“.

Choose “Allow“, if you do not see what is in the screenshot above “Superuser Request“, then your Kindle Fire has not been rooted successfully.

Press the back key so you are now back in the Settings of ES File Manager, you need to make sure you have a Check Box next to “Mount File System“, or you will not be able to see the /system/ folder, where we need to copy the (3) APK files.

Choose the Back button on the Kindle Fire so you are now at the directory where we copied the (3) APK files earlier.

Press and hold on the “GoogleFeedback.apk” file you should see a menu similar to the screenshot shown above, choose “Copy“.

Press on the “Star” / Favorites icon at the top of ES File Manager. Choose “Phone“.

You should now be in the directory like shown in the picture above.

Choose the “system” folder.

Now Choose the “app” folder.

Next press the little box at the bottom shown in the screenshot above.

Press on the icon that you copied, you will see a notification that says “GoogleServicesFramework.apk” was copied successfully. Like shown above.

You need to copy the other (2) (Vending.apk & GoogleServicesFramework.apk) files the same way you just copied the GoogleServicesFramework.apk file.

Step 5. Once all (3) files have been copied successfully to your “/system/app” directory you can now Shut Down your device.

Step 6. Power on your Kindle, once it has been fully booted up, open your app drawer and launch the Android Marketplace. Like shown below.

Step 7. You have successfully installed the Android Marketplace, you can now download applications right to your Kindle without any problems. Lots of users have been getting a Force Close error when downloading applications, this is because they did not install their Android Marketplace (vending.apk) into their “/system/app” directory.

Amazon Kindle Fire – How To Obtain Root Access SuperUser

This is the easiest Tutorial on how to Root your Amazon Kindle Fire on the internet. I was searching around on XDA-Developers and AndroidCommunity.com both sources had pretty much the same information just a lot more steps. Not the easiest tutorial for a new Android owner. I took bits an pieces of each to make it very simple as well as in depth screenshots explaining what to do. Lets Begin.

Rooting your device will void your warranty! However the tutorial/how to may seem easy we cannot be held responsible if something goes terribly wrong on your Kindle Fire.

Essentials Needed:
Kindle Fire
USB Cable
Windows Based PC
ADB – More information can be found here on installing ADB on to your computer, Click here.
SuperOneClick 2.2

Installation:
Step 1. Download and Install ADB onto your Windows Based Computer
Step 2. Open a command prompt on your Windows computer. To do this, press the Start button and type “CMD” into the search box. Or click Windows Start Choose “RUN” -> and type in “CMD” If you still cannot find it, go to All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt
Step 3. In the command prompt window, type in the following command (it needs to be exact!)
echo 0×1949 >> “%USERPROFILE%\.android\adb_usb.ini
Press the Enter key. After you press Enter, you will not get any notification in command prompt, it will just take you to another line to enter another command, you can now Close out of Command Prompt. This will add the vendor ID to the “adb_usb.ini” file, check the screenshot below to make sure you are on the same page as us.

Step 4. Now on your Kindle Fire, you need to enable “Unknown Sources” in your Settings, Device menu. You can do this by following the screenshots shown below:

Press on the top of your device where your WiFi / Battery Notification are located.

Choose the “More” option

Choose the “Device” option, several tutorials tell you to choose Applications, but what we are looking for is not located there on the Kindle.

Make sure you Choose “ON” (there will be an orange highlight indicating it has been turned on).

Step 5. Plug your Amazon Kindle Fire USB to your Computer. It may take a few minutes for the drivers to install. Once they are installed continue on to Step 6.

Step 6. Download SuperOneClick 2.2.zip if you did not already from the link above. Please note that this is a .ZIP file you will need to extract ALL of the contents to your computer. It should look exactly as shown in the screenshot below.

Double Click on the SuperOneClick.exe (executable) it should have a Green Android with a Red Glow icon

Step 7. You now need to enable USB Mass Storage on your Kindle so you can copy files to/from your computer. Follow the screenshots shown below.

In the top left corner of the screen you should see “YourName’s Kindle” press it.

If it is connected properly you will see a button at the bottom that says “Disconnect”, this is exactly what you want to see on the device, leave it alone.

Step 8. Back on the SuperRoot application that you opened earlier click on the “Root” button like shown in the screenshot below.

The SuperOneClick Root application, will now be applying the root access commands to the device, it will take roughly around 5 minutes to fully install. You should now notice some display information shown below.

Next Reboot your device, once you have rebooted you will notice an Application in your App Drawer called “SuperUser” Your device has been successfully rooted. To verify install any application that requires root user permissions such as (AdBlock, RootChecker, Root Explorer) etc.
