How To – Root – Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G LTE

Published on December 17th, 2011 | by justin

Lots of crazy articles floating on the internet to root your Samsung Galaxy Nexus 4G LTE device. I’ve created a much easier tutorial than most of the other posts available on the internet.

Step 1. First thing you are going to need is the Samsung USB Drivers (for windows). Download the file below to your computer and install. Make sure your device is not connected via USB yet.
Download via Droidpirate.com

Step 2. Next you are going to need (r3-galaxynexus-superboot.zip) Download this file to your computer as well. Once the download is finished create a new folder in your (C: Drive) called “root” on your computer. Download Superboot via Droidpirate.com Screenshot shown below:

Step 3. Now open the r3-galaxynexus-superboot.zip that you’ve downloaded from above. Copy all of the files in the zip to the (C:\root) folder you’ve created in Step 2. It should look exactly as shown in the screenshot below:

Step 4. Completely Power OFF Your Galaxy Nexus Device, and connect the USB cable from your computer to your Galaxy Nexus.

Step 5. Press and hold VOLUME UP (+) and VOLUME DOWN (-) while holding them press and hold the Power Button as well. You should see an Android on your screen with a “Start” image at the top like shown below:

Step 6. Now open a command prompt on your computer by clicking on Start at the bottom, and in the search box (On Windows 7) type in “CMD“. Or Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt. When the command prompt has been loaded type in (cd c:\root) Next type in (fastboot-windows oem unlock) – *This is going to wipe your device completely!* Check the screenshot below:

Step 7. Ok, now your boot loader should be unlocked on your device. You should see at the bottom of your Galaxy Nexus screen (BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED).

Step 8. With the bootloader screen still on your Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Navigate on your computer to the (C Drive and the root folder) (c:\root) and double click on the “install-superboot-windows.bat” file that you extracted earlier.

Step 9. Reboot your device! Please note you are going to see a lock icon at the bottom of your device with the “Google” splash screen starting up, this splash screen will reboot about 3 times do not worry you are not bricked, it will take around 5-10 minutes to fully boot just let it go!

Your device should now be rooted check your Application drawer and you should see Superuser application installed. To test root, download “Adblock” from the Android marketplace. If you get a message that says “Unable to get root” you did not follow the steps correctly. If the application opens up fine congratulations.
