SGP Incredible Shield 4.0 for Motorola Droid X

September 29, 2010

Here is a great protective shield for the Motorola Droid X created by SGP. The company that created the iPhone shield finally have now moved on to the Droid-X. The price for the v4.0 shield is $26.99 but also have three other plans. Think about it though if you were like me and spent $600.00 on a Droid-X without using your upgrade from Verizon the $26.99 is well worth it.

Root Application – Koushs Bootstrap for Droid-2

September 26, 2010

This is not a *real* recovery. The way this recovery works is by hijacking portions of your boot process during system initialization and starting into recovery instead. So, if you hose your system *COMPLETELY* you will need to SBF. Specifically, if your logwrapper, logwrapper.bin, or hijack binary are missing from /system/bin, you will be screwed.

Root Application – Superuser

September 26, 2010

Changelog:
I got tired of the old, quite unreadable, Superuser app that’s being used in most every build, so I refreshed it entirely. Some of the new features include:
- Each permission is shown by it’s name, rather than it’s UID
- Many translations (Spanish, German, Czech, Greek, French, Italian, Dutch, Russian and Danish (Some are full translations, some are only partial))
- Optional notifications
- A dialog that shows details of each permission
- Full logging system
- A much clearer request window.
- Permissions are removed when an app is uninstalled to prevent another app from possibly getting permissions you don’t want it to have.
- A bunch of work behind the scenes to smooth things out.

Download Links:
You can download an install directly from the market. Or if you are not able to install from the market you can download the files and push them to your device using ADB.

Application can be downloaded for free on the Android Market place
Search for “Superuser

MetaMorph – Droid-X – StarWars Lock Screen

September 26, 2010

I pulled this from the leaked Froyo 2.2 R2D2 ROM version. The only thing cool I found in the framework was the Starwars style lock screen so I decided to turn it into a MetaMorph for those just looking for the lock screen.

Compatibility:
Droid-X
Droid-2

Installation:
1. Download file below, note this file requires the MetaMorph Application
2. Move to “Android Themes” folder created by MetaMorph on SD card
3. After checks, choose “Unzip/Extract New
4. Follow instructions from there
5. Phone may reboot, if not, manually reboot

Software Upgrade Required to Fix DROID X Text Message Issue

September 26, 2010

There is a known text messaging issue with the Droid X running official Android 2.2 that Motorola is apparently aware of and already working on. According to their forums manager, their dev team has realized that an actual software upgrade is the only way to fix the problem.

Most right now are reporting that the issue has to do with text messages appearing out of order, but from my early experience with the leaked 2.2 and after talking with one of our readers, the problem is actually in the date and time settings of the phone. Messages aren’t appearing out of order, but are showing with a 4 hour time difference to when you actually received the message.

What’s funny about this issue, is I ran into so long ago and was unable to find a fix. At the time, I had a pretty good idea that the OS was to blame, but figured it was a big enough problem that it would have been ironed out in the official version. Apparently I was wrong and should have made a bigger deal out of it.

It should be noted that the problem is found in the native text app, Chomp and Handcent so there is really no work around at this time.
