Published on August 23rd, 2010 | by justin

There is a new feature in Froyo, which when you lock and unlock the screen, a little “click” is made. If you don’t know how to access the Unlock/Lock sound settings you can find it by going to.

Settings -> Sound Settings -> Screen Lock Sounds

Instructions
(This can be done with any sound in the UI sectin)
1. Open Root Explorer go into “/system/media/audio/notifications/
2. Pick your desired notification sound and copy it
3. Press back once, and then press “/ui
4. Press the “mount r/w” button in the top right corner
4. Rename either “Unlock.ogg” or “Lock.ogg” (whichever one you are replacing) to .ogg.bak, so you can switch it back if you don’t like it
5. Paste your notification into “/ui“, and rename it to whichever you just renamed to “.bak
6. Close Root Explorer and reboot
7. Unlock/Lock your phone and enjoy!

I have a rooted Samsung captivate running eclaire, I have completed all the steps posted above to try and change the unlock sound. The file I am trying to load as the new unlock sound is in the correct format (.ogg) but now when I unlock my phone its silent. What could be the problem?

Did you just rename the file to .ogg ? Or was it already a .ogg extension?

Well it was originally a mp3 file but I used a format converter software to change it to .ogg.

My original unlock sound was saved as “TW.Unlock_Glass.ogg”. When saving the new file in “/ui” do you save it as TW.Unlock_Glass.ogg or as Unlock_Glass.ogg?

Hello, I downloaded/installed the Root Explorer and can see the Lock.ogg and Unlock.ogg files in /system/media/audio/ui. However, step 4, I do not have an option/button in the top right corner or anywhere. Therefore, when I try to replace these files, I get a “read only” error.

Any idea why I don’t have the option to make it r/w ?
