In this tutorial I will be explaining how to install “Third Party” or applications you’ve downloaded from your computer to your device.
The first thing you want to make sure is that your phone allows Third Party app installations. You can verify that this setting is enabled by doing the following.
Go to Settings -> then Applications, then you should see “Unknown Sources” – “Allow installation of non-Market applications” make sure you have a check next to it.
1. Make sure you have Astro File Manager or another file manager program installed on your device.
2. First mount your device to your PC if you are not sure how please Click here
3. Download the file you are going to placing on your device. Please make sure the file is “.APK”, if it is a zip file you must extract the files on your computer first. Next proceed to copy the file from your computer to anywhere on your SD-Card (Be sure to remember the location of where you placed it).
4. Now that you have the file you are going to be installing, and your device is connected via USB. The next step is opening your “file manager” application on your device. (In our example we are using Astro File Manager) which can be downloaded for free in the market place.
5. Inside of Astro, find the .apk file that you placed on to your device. Click on it.
6. Select Install
7. You should now see a message box that says something similar “Your application has been successfully installed”. That’s it! Your application is now on your device!
** If you get an error message or a “force close” message something is either wrong with the .apk file or it is not supported for your devices model. **
